Prayers to Saint Jude

Saint Jude Thaddeus is the patron saint of desperate situations. He was one of the chosen Twelve Apostles, the brother of Saint James the Lesser and a cousin of Jesus Christ, whom he greatly resembles. Saint Jude made missionary journeys, during which he preached and dispensed the Sacraments.

St. Jude, glorious Apostle,
faithful servant and friend
of Jesus, the name of the traitor
has caused you to be forgotten
by many, but the true Church
invokes you universally as the
Patron of things despaired of;
pray for me, who am so
miserable; pray for me, that
finally I may receive the
consolations and the succor of
Heaven in all my necessities,
tribulations and sufferings,
particularly (here make your
request), and that I may bless
God with the Elect throughout
Eternity. Amen.

Saint Jude, Don’t Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow —
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out —
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how closer you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit —
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
